Below you’ll find our summary and a mini-recap of our trip to Japan. This country, so different from France, is where we spent 34 days cycling from Tokyo to Fukuoka, covering 1484 km. Click here to see the map.
We liked:
- The serenity and patience of the Japanese
- The feeling of always being safe
- The kindness of the people and their constant desire to help
- The constant discipline: in the queues present almost everywhere.
- Respect for red lights, even without any vehicles, if the pedestrian pictogram is red, no one crosses.
- The ban on smoking outside means there are no cigarette butts on the ground.
- The cleanliness of the towns and countryside, yet nowhere will you find a public trash can.
- Motorists’ respect for cyclists on the roads
- The speed limit for cars on the roads is 60 km/h, and it is respected.
- Cycle paths
- Public baths “Onsen”
- Public transport in large cities
- Heated toilets equipped with jets for washing intimate areas
We liked it less:
- Crowds in cities and tourist sites
- Food
- Housing prices
- The poor condition of some of the cycle paths
- The size of hotel rooms
- The thinness of the toilet paper
- The lack of even minimal English translation in some tourist areas
Did you know: In addition to the ban on smoking outdoors, throwing your cigarette butt on the ground costs €130.
