From Tuesday 8 to Thursday 16 November, from Villa Amengual to Cochrane,

Summary of the route

Wednesday, departure from Villa Amengual towards Coyhaique. The day is more pleasant without rain but it is cold. We leave with the desire to camp en route because the distance between the two points is more than 140km. In the end we will drive 146km and reach Coyhaique due to not having found a place to camp. There is snow on our route and the temperature is still cool.

After a day of rest, we continue our journey towards a first objective, Cochrane. We pass through the villages of El Blanco, Cerro Castillo, Puerto Tranquilo, Puerto Bertrand and finally arrive at Cochrane. On the way we will sleep in the farm of Sandra and Felix with whom we had already slept in 2020

Communion with nature

The road between Villa Amengual and Cochrane is a communion with nature. During these 9 days the greatest satisfaction was to travel in nature which has retained its wild and exotic aspect (reflex from the photo gallery in this article). Let’s hope that mass tourism will not come to change this world that we need.

Return to covid 2020

We arrived in Cochrane. A place that we know well, we stayed there for three months in 2020, the year of Covid, hoping that the pandemic would only last a few weeks, unfortunately it will accompany us for two years of our lives. So many memories and some satisfaction that people three years later recognized us in the street of this small village in Patagonia.

Did you know: the Carretera Austral is road number 7, 1240km long and is largely unpaved. Its nickname is “Sentier Général Pinochet”. His plan was to pave it over its entire length.
